WVEPAH, in collaboration with the Université de Montréal (UdeM FMV), is authorized by the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH-OIE) to train and certify experts in Production Animal Health: Aviculture, Aquaculture, Swine and Laboratory Animals. Under the "One Health" perspective, to support the sustainable development of aquaculture production for human consumption and improve the global level of aquaculture competencies, WOAH asked WVEPAH to develop a training and certification program for aquaculture health and biosecurity field experts. These experts will receive certification recognizing their ability to work locally at farm level, at watershed level, and regional and national levels.

They will acquire the ability to become key auditors and support farmers for biosecurity, disease management, prevention, surveillance, and product quality. They will also be internationally recognized in the Aquaculture network as trainers for trainers.

WVEPAH has developed a combined offer of courses that can be adapted to suit as many people as possible, enabling you to benefit from each of the teaching methods at our disposal.

Aquaculture courses (Modules I and II) are offered in a hybrid format. The online part offers increased flexibility and allows reduced prices. Everyone can follow the prerecorded conferences at their own pace. On the other hand, the residential part enhances practical work, autopsies, industry visits and exchanges between colleagues and Course Masters. The advantages often continue through the links that remain after the end of the course.
The residential portion of the course lasts for one week (5 working days), takes place at the facilities of our partner university, and is given in English.

The Course Masters are internationally recognized in a range of aquatic animals’ health and production fields.
Participants who have undertaken the Module I course, a Module II course, and have submitted their 25 clinical case analyses are eligible for the postgraduate Professional Certificate in Animal Health: Aquaculture Production, issued by the Université de Montréal, with the ‘regulation’ part validated by the World Organisation for Animal Health.

The World Veterinary Education in Production Animal Health (WVEPAH), based in Luxembourg, is a non-profit organization providing high-quality post-graduate training for professionals in various fields of production animals.

About the WVEPAH

The WVEPAH is a non-profit organization for continuing professional development.
It recruits teachers, verifies the veracity of the participants’ qualifications and CVs, provides logistical support (registration, course location organization in collaboration with the local host university, management etc.). The Université de Montréal is responsible for ensuring quality standards and compliance with academic rules and for issuing diplomas. The course masters are responsible for the course content, the structure of which is consistent with the WVEPAH’s pedagogy.
The latter is described under “Study Programs”.

Levels of expertise of professionals in aquaculture farming

Aquaculture experts are employed in various positions throughout the world, such as in the pharmaceutical and food industries, or as veterinarian practitioners or educators.

However, depending on each professional’s past work experience and educational background, the levels of expertise in the various aspects of this field may vary greatly.

While all professionals have their own individual strengths, in order to obtain the status of “expert”, they must meet the international standards required by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) in each of the areas involved in the overall management of their production.
As a general example, the table below summarizes the competencies of 120 participants from 22 countries. It shows their levels of competency in various areas of poultry farming, according to their job and day-to-day work, compared to the international standards required by WOAH.

In the Aquaculture field, the same observations applies.
